How Dry Is Champagne?

Champagne reveals its dryness right on the label, but most people don't realize it! Words like Brut, Extra Dry, and Demi Sec tell you how sweet that sparkler is and can make finding your favorite style a lot easier.

 

Champagnes fall into six different categories of sweetness, but the most common today is Brut. Brut means that the wine has less than 1.5 percent sugar (considered very dry). Rounder and creamier Extra Dry has only a hint more, with percentages that fall between 1.2 and 2.0.
