Southwest of the Rhône Valley is the Languedoc-
Roussillon area, another region in France that's well worth
a wine lover's look. It was once known for producing
inexpensive yet rather ordinary wines; however, in recent
years, winemakers have seized upon the area's potential
for producing terrific Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah,
and Chardonnay. Generally labeled Vin de Pays d'Oc,
these wines usually feature the grape variety front and
center on their labels, making it easy for American wine
drinkers to choose a bottle.
