What’s the Best Picnic Wine?

Wine Club panelist Maureen Petrosky votes for Riesling. In fact, when she was doing research for her book, The Wine Club: A Month-by-Month Guide to Learning about Wine with Friends, she pitted Riesling against two other top picnic-wine contenders, sparkling wine and Pinot Grigio, at an outdoor meal featuring typical picnic fare. "Sure enough," she writes, "Riesling emerged as the champ-it just went so well with everything, from sandwiches and salads to pâté and pickles." She also points out that many can be relatively low in alcohol-a good choice for warm days.
