Movie Night In: Wine-Themed Movies

With chilly weather likely continuing into spring, there is nothing better than spending a cozy evening in—curling up under a throw and popping in a good movie. The following movies selections will satisfy any wine enthusiast. And after watching them, if you don’t already have a glass of wine in hand, you’ll certainly be craving one.

A Good Year: Based on a book by Peter Mayle, Russell Crowe plays a high-powered investment banker in London who inherits a ramshackle vineyard from his uncle. This movie was filmed in the scenic Luberon region of Southwestern France.

A Walk in the Clouds: Set in 1945, this romantic drama stars Keanu Reeves as a salesman who meets a young woman who is pregnant out of wedlock. He agrees to pose as her husband when she travels to Napa Valley to visit her family for the grape harvest.

French Kiss: Meg Ryan, the queen of romantic comedies, charms us once again with this movie that also stars Kevin Kline as a French winemaker. A highpoint for wine-lovers comes in a scene where Meg Ryan’s character learns the art of discovering flavors in wine.

Mondovino: This documentary examines the impact of globalization on wine-producing regions. Offering a parade of who’s who in the wine business, the film received critical acclaim, but was quite controversial amongst some industry veterans.

Sideways: This Oscar-winning film did for Pinot Noir and the Santa Barbara wine region what Tiger Woods did for golf. A movie about two guys visiting Santa Barbara for a weekend of wine, golf, and women, its witty dialogue about relationships and wine shocks, amuses, and enlightens.
