Washing Your Wine Glasses

While most new glassware is dishwasher safe, it's best to wash your wine glasses by hand, as dishwashing detergents may leave residues that can give off a smell to the wine and inhibit those tiny bubbles in Champagne and other bubblies. Dry your wine glasses with white paper towels, as laundry products can add a scent to dishtowels, which in turn can transfer unwanted fragrances to your wine glasses. While washing, it feels natural to hold the glass by the stem and turn the bowl-don't do it. You can easily twist the stem right off the glass when you do this. It's safer to hold the part of the glass being washed. Lightly grasp the bowl while washing the bowl, and the stem while washing the stem.
