St. Supéry Winery

Tasting Notes

Our panel universally called this a "classic" Sauvignon Blanc-one to use as a reference point for what SB should taste like. Wini was immediately reminded of the zippy, herbal flavors of a classic green goddess dressing and the team went off on a food-inspired tangent! But we came back to relishing the wine, with its citrus, fresh hay, and fragrant aromas, not to mention the pert finish. Drink now.

Winery Story

St. Supéry Winery has long been a magnet for Napa Valley visitors. Their estate winery, art gallery, and guided and self-guided tours offer guests a unique and memorable Napa Valley winery experience. While the historic farmhouse that serves as a year-round tasting room is a popular attraction, many visitors devote their time to a self-guided tour.

What makes their tour different? The interactive displays. Guests start by observing the barrel room, crush area, and tank storage (all pretty hum-drum after seeing a few wineries), but are then led upstairs to the gallery. Inside, maps identify worldwide wine production levels and major regions, while interesting charts and statistics reveal insights about Napa Valley and its wine history. Best of all, tucked under a skylight, are the "smell-a-vision" podiums.

These displays contain aroma examples found in different types of wine, like Sauvignon Blanc. For example, visitors can push a button and the aromas of sweet hay waft up through a cone to their nose. It is a wonderful version of a "Nez du Vin," the French version of an aroma kit. After their trip to St. Supéry, wine country travelers have a better sense about what wine is all about-the smells.
