Tasting Notes
Wine tasting is hungry work, especially when whites like Silver Spur's Chardonnay smell like pastries. Apple Danish, pound cake, and buttered-toast aromas abound, followed with vanilla bean and lemon custard when you taste it. Ah, yummy California Chardonnay! And this one has terrific acidity, too. Drink now.
Winery Story
Handy Tip #47: "Never pass up a good laugh with old friends."
This is just one on a list of several "Handy Tips" listed on Silver Spur Winery's Web site. Pat and Maggie Doud offer this humorous list as a piece of their philosophy-to capture the spirit of the American West.
The other piece to the Doud's philosophy is about friends, food, and wine. To them, the three should come together often. They got together with old college friend Mike Sangiacomo when the couple launched their Silver Spur wine brand. Mike, a graduate of northern California's Santa Clara University, owns and operates Sangiacomo Vineyards (in cool Carneros), from which their Chardonnay is sourced. To wine lovers, this property's name is synonymous with voluptuous Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs-exactly the type of wines Silver Spur is creating.
