Tasting Notes
"Elegant” is an adjective seldom used anymore to describe wines, but no other fits as well when talking about Monticello Vineyard’s Jefferson Cuvee. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, its classic olive, cassis, cedar, and deep cherry swished around in our mouths like fine merino wool. With a founding father’s name on the label, you can expect an appropriately distinguished wine—and you’ll get it. Drink now through 2012.
Winery Story
Jay Corley founded Monticello Vineyards over thirty years ago with the philosophy of turning “sunshine into wine.” To him, that meant planting his vineyards in Napa Valley, where the soils and growing conditions were ideal for wine grapes. He and his family manage the vineyards, direct the wine making, and provide hands-on involvement with their hospitality operations.
And hospitality they have. Monticello Vineyards has the distinct reputation for hosting fabulous wine dinners and parties. Their Jefferson House, a small-scale replica of Jefferson’s Virginia home, Monticello, stands in front of the winery and is a grand rental site for al fresco dining (it enjoys an expansive patio) or for intimate dinners inside in the main salon. The building’s historical details delight locals and visitors and enhance any visit to the Corley family’s vineyards.
