Tasting Notes
Zingy fresh lime and gooseberry explode in your mouth when you try this Sauvignon Blanc. Citrus aromas combine with light grassy overtones in the beginning, and for a moment, they hide the acidity that quickly follows. New Zealand is known for racy whites, and Lake Chalice delivers this style with ripe grapefruit and fresh herbs. Drink now.
Winery Story
New Zealand is best known for breathtakingly fresh Sauvignon Blanc, and its reputation continues to grow. The vineyards of Lake Chalice enjoy climatic conditions that have made Marlborough the main wine-growing region for New Zealand: Warm, sunny autumn days coupled with cool nights produce wines with pronounced vibrancy and zing.
Lake Chalice's label features the indigenous Karearea bird, a falcon that helps the vineyards by discouraging the smaller birds that damage ripening grapes. The Falcon Vineyard in the heart of Marlborough's Wairau Valley was the foundation site for Lake Chalice Wines. It is situated on part of an old riverbed, with stony, sandy soils where vines must be carefully coaxed and nurtured to grow. Because harvest yields are low, the fruit is intensely flavored and the wines are distinctively Marlborough.
