Tasting Notes
"I'd like to have this at my house!" noted one of our tasters after sipping Huber's easy-drinking white. With aromas of limes, peaches, and apples, this minerally white has a peppery aftertaste (typical for this varietal). A perfectly refreshing wine for a hot summer afternoon.
Winery Story
At the tender age of twenty-three, Markus Huber took over the task of making wine at his family's winery in the Traisental region of Austria. The Huber family has been making wine from their land for five generations, but has owned it since 1778, which equates into nine generations. The first four generations practiced coopering (the art of barrel making). Markus and his father, Anton, share the efforts of viticulture, while it is now entirely Markus's hand in the cellar. Huber has received much international attention, being dubbed one of the rising stars in the Austrian wine scene.
Like most vineyards in Austria, Huber's vineyards are planted along a river, in this case, the Traisen River, where the rocky soils provide excellent drainage. The Traisental region is one of the smallest in Austria, with only 15 producers selling finished wines to the public. But the area shows terrific promise for growth, having a small sub-area perfect for producing prized botrytised (noble rot) dessert wines.
