Blackstone Winery

Tasting Notes

Yes—Blackstone Winery makes more than just yummy Merlot! Their signature style of glossy, big fruit reds is carried into a line of wine from Sonoma County. The Syrah (a Rhone varietal) has a deep, almost purplish color and a nose full of black currant and yellow cake. Follow that up with a shake of tangy white pepper and you have a wine perfect for sipping or pairing. Drink now.

Winery Story

It’s a double-edged sword to be known for one type of wine. While it brings success and notoriety, it also narrows what people know you for. And, just like a typecast Hollywood actor, breaking out of the mold is a big hurdle.

This is the case with Blackstone. Starting with a single wine, Merlot, they built a consumer following that is the envy of the industry. But, now they’re a bit stuck. One way to break out? Focus on taking the quality you’re known for and stepping it up.

Enter their Sonoma County line. This collection, made up of reds and whites, focuses on the style and grace of Sonoma (next door to Napa in Northern California). What they’ve done well is to make quality wine. Wine with a sense of place. Now they are focusing on getting the word out.
