  • Boston Brown Bread

Being a New-Englander with routes back to Plymouth Bay Colony circa 1640, it's appropriate that I have this recipe somewhere in my repertoire. I know both my grandmothers made this back when times were tight. This is often served with Boston Baked beans, and might be a great camping or summer picnic dish as well. It also can be thinly sliced and served with a cream cheese spread as a tea sandwich, cut in quarters.

  • Bread Machine Coffee Braid

Sweet dough braided loaf. You can make plain, or add raisins or currants or other dried fruits, and nuts, and/or fill with your favorite fruit or nut filling as desired. My grandmother made these raised yeast coffee cakes for every holiday, and I now try to do the same. Starting the dough in the bread machine saves time. She filled with a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon, which I "kicked up" a bit too.
