Vegan-Friendly Substitutes in Bread Recipes

Vegan bread recipes can be challenging if you've never experimented with vegan cooking before. The standard ingredients in many baking recipes include butter, milk, shortening and other items which all come from animals. Fortunately it's easier than ever to find replacements for these crucial ingredients, thanks to an ever-expanding market for animal-free food products. A vegan bread recipe should include vegan-friendly alternatives including soy milk and vegan butter.

The challenge in making healthy vegetarian recipes is finding substitutes for animal fats and proteins. Soy and flax products can be quite important in this regard both from a nutritional standpoint and in the science of baking. Butter and other fatty ingredients are the "glue" which makes the baked goods come out of the oven without being excessively dry or flavorless. In vegan bread recipes, flax and soy-based baking may not turn out quite as moist, but when properly made they can be just as tasty.
