Spice Up Beef Recipes

beef recipesThere are many ways to cook and season beef recipes to give the meat a particular flavor. Whether you're looking to go with a simple or complex dish, there is a spice or seasoning that will work well. Here are some basics to consider when it comes to spicing your beef recipes:

  • If you want to cut costs, you can buy a less expensive cut of meat and marinate it with spices to soften the texture and add flavor. Many people enjoy a wine marinade with oregano, thyme, rosemary and ground pepper. Vinegar mixes also make great marinade bases.
  • You can use either dried or fresh spices. You may want to add a larger amount if using fresh seasoning. Some people like to double the amount.
  • If you want to experiment with spices for beef recipes, it can help to start out with more traditional, tested flavorings such as allspice, basil, bay leaves, marjoram, oregano, thyme, chili powder, ginger and garlic. Salt and fresh ground pepper are classic favorites that also work very well on beef.
  • Try out a "rub". Rubs are great for adding flavor to grilling recipes or roasts. Use a mixture of spices and then coat meat with the mixture to add a great texture. There are some great rub mixes out there, but you can make your own as well with just a few ingredients such as crushed peppercorns, sea salt and garlic.
  • Easy beef recipes such as hamburger and meatloaf will benefit from a little bit of additional spicing. Add a pinch of fresh herbs or a shake or two of your favorite spice blend before mixing.

Beef recipes don't need a ton of additional seasoning to bring out the flavor of the meat, but it can help. You can also make substitutions. If you find easy beef recipes or grilling recipes that don't call for much in the way of spices or seasonings, you can select a few favorites to make the dish more interesting and flavorful.

Try to think about what other meal items you will be serving as well. If you mix too many different flavors together by adding side dishes that don't complement your beef recipes, it will overwhelm the taste buds. Easy beef recipes can be paired with spicier fare to liven up the meal, but again, keep in mind that a little goes a long way when mixing and matching strong flavors.
