This summer, try making a fun new treat around the campfire!

Today’s recipe is an exciting way to end a meal when you are cooking outdoors.  If you like s’mores, you will love these “Campfire Bananas!”

Keep reading for the recipe…

To make these “Campfire Bananas” all you have to do is slit open a banana legenthwise and then stuff with your favorite fillings!  I used peanut butter chips, Cocoa Pebbles cereal and, of course, mini marshmallows, for an ooey-gooey twist on classic s’mores flavors.  Then, simply wrap in foil and warm over a hot grill or campfire.  I think this recipe is soon be a new family favorite and summertime tradition!

This weekend, we are hosting a giant family reunion at my parents house in Chicago.  Relatives are coming in from far and wide – even all the way from Finland!

For the party, we wanted to create a unique gathering place outside in the backyard.  Someplace where we could sit, cook food and socialize.   Of course, the “Campfire Bananas” will be on the menu!

My Dad and Uncle Benny got to work with their chainsaws to build these stools and chairs from a fallen tree.

This outdoor “furniture” came all the way from the UP of Michigan down to our home in Illinois.  Each log stool must weigh more than 200 pounds each.  We have no idea how my Dad got them out of the woods and into our backyard fire pit.  Impressive, huh?!

The centerpiece of this fire pit is a special grill my mom won in a recipe contest sponsored by Cabin Life magazine several years ago.  Check out the beautiful etchings on the side!

(By the way, don’t forget to check out the recipe contests we host right here at Better Recipes!)

You build a fire in the middle and then swing the grill top over the flames.  There is even a rotisserie attachment that we are excited to try.

I can’t wait for a weekend of family, laughter and good food as we gather around the fire pit and celebrate!
