Bridal Shower Scones, Devonshire Cream and Lemon Curd

On Tuesday I shared with you the first post about the bridal shower we hosted for my sister this weekend.  Today, I wanted to share with you some of the biggest hits from the afternoon tea – homemade scones, Devonshire cream and lemon curd.

There is something so elegant about the classic dishes associated with High Tea.   I have to admit, my absolute favorite is the presentation of scones.  I adore the slightly dry biscuits with a dollop of the rich Devonshire cream and the sweet-tart lemon curd.

For the party this weekend, we prepared this traditional recipe for “Currant Scones.”

To top the scones, we offered our guests a variety of toppings.  First, there was the decadent “Devonshire Cream.”  Not only is it an excellent accompaniment to English scones, it is also delicious on top of a bowl of fresh strawberries.  Consider making a double batch, you won’t regret it!

Then came my mom’s recipe for “The Best Lemon Curd.”  I have to admit, the title says it all.  It is simply the best you will ever taste.  I might have been caught sneaking tastes by the spoonful after the party!
