I am so thrilled to reveal the winners in our 2013 “Best Recipe Ever” Contest!

We will start today with the $1,000 Ultimate Reader’s Choice winner and then (drum roll please…) the $10,000 Grand Prize winner will be announced on Monday!

Keep reading for the winning recipe…

The Reader’s Choice prize is special because this winner is selected by YOU!  Better Recipes readers voted each week for their favorite dish and then each of these weekly winners went head to head for the ultimate prize.

Huge round of applause to Marianne Bouthilette for her “Outrageous Peanut Butter Brownies!

I had the chance to ask Marianne a few questions about her winning recipe.

How did you hear about the Better Recipes contests?

I searched recipe contests and the website came up and I thought the categories were very interesting.

Why did you decide to enter?

I love to bake for my family and friends and many say that I should enter a baking contest, so I did.

How did you come up with your winning recipe?

I love desserts so the “Best Brownie” contest was right up my alley.  I thought of combinations that are my family’s favorites and the combination of chocolate and peanut butter was right at the top of the list.  I took some time to research brownie recipes and worked with the ingredients to come up with a moist base and creamy peanut butter filling, The topping was a last minute addition.

Why do you think this recipe was selected by the Better Recipes readers as their ultimate favorite of 2013?

I think it is because of the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate.

Did you promote your recipe or do anything special to encourage people to vote for your entry?

I’m very lucky to have great family and friend support and I think that helped out a lot.  What I did was inform all my friends, family, and co workers; many told me that they shared the link with their family, friends, and coworkers.  When possible I also shared samples of my creation along with the link.  I also sent out reminders every couple of days to help get votes. Email, pinterest, and facebook was used to help promote my recipe.

Do you have any suggestions for someone looking to win a Reader’s Choice prize in the 2014 contests?

Just inform as many people as you can!

I have to admit “outrageous” is the perfect title for these brownies.  They are rich, decadent perfection!  This is one of those recipes that once you make a batch, it will soon have a permanent place in your recipe file.  It’s one that you will find yourself making over and over again!

Sorry, but I disagree about any contest that has a winnner chosen this way. It is not based on taste but popularity of the person and them promoting their friends/family to cast a vote.
I DID NOT enter this contest but I was recently in a similar contest and I DID NOT ask one person to vote for me and fortunately was a second place winner.

      Hi Diane,

Let me clarify for you how the Better Recipes contests work. We always have two winners – an Editor’s Choice and a Reader’s Choice.

If you choose to enter our contests you are NOT required to ask for votes or promote your recipe in order to win. If an entrant wants to promote their recipe in order to try for the Reader’s Choice prize, that is their decision.

In our 2013 contest there was a $10,000 Grand Prize winner chosen by our judges and a $1,000 Reader’s Choice winner chosen by the audience. The recipe here was the Reader’s Choice winner. You can find the $10,000 Editor’s Choice here:

Let me know if you have any other questions!
