Last week, we focused on “Gluten-Free” options here at Better Recipes.  These days, we are understanding more about gluten allergies, and many people are choosing to eliminate or reduce gluten from their diet.  We put the call out to our readers to show off their best gluten-free recipes and the response was excellent!  From main dishes to desserts, we were impressed by all the gluten-free recipe suggestion.  In the end, one recipe came out on top and was selected by our judges as the “Best Gluten-Free Recipe Ever.”  Take a look!

These “Browned Butter Blueberry Oatmeal Cookies” from “lattemadness” are not only the best gluten-free cookies I have ever tasted, they are now among my favorite cookies ever!  I adore every last ingredient in these cookies and they all just happen to be gluten-free.  From browned butter, to toasted oats, and even dried wild blueberries!

Browning butter is easy, and it imparts incredible flavor to recipes.  Simply melt butter over medium heat and stir until it becomes a beautiful golden color and irresistibly fragrant.  In front of your eyes, you can see butter transform itself into liquid gold.

Instead of traditional all-purpose flour, this recipe calls for gluten-free rolled oats and almond meal/flour.  To add another layer of flavor, our winner calls for the oats and almond flour to be lightly toasted in the oven before adding them to the recipe.  Such an innovative and delicious idea!

The final secret to these winning cookies is a dash of sea salt.  Not only is there salt in the cookie dough, you also sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top of the cookies right when they come out of the oven.  Once they are cooled and you take that first bite, it is the perfect blend of sweet, salty, crunch and chewy.  I will most certainly be making these cookies again very soon!
