The reason I like homemade meals, because I can control what goes into the foods. I’m a Diabetic, and some of the books I have it seems as though you have to buy out the whole store just to make the recipe. I can’t a ford it… I used to make my own butter, when my kids were growing up and I had a friend who had cows, but that was then this is now. I can’t find anyone who has cows to buy the cream. My mom made Cottage cheese all the time. But her recipe was in her head, and so was my grandmothers. That’s one recipe I wish I did have… But yes, I would like to really try making my own cheese and get back to making butter.. I hope you can help.

I have purchased over a hundred cookbooks at yard sales, so my selection is endless. For the most part I usually enjoy all that I cook. And lately I have been inviting friends and family over to try the meals I cook. Ingredients are easy to find and vegetables in season are always a good bargain. Who could ask for more? The BIG plus is I enjoy cooking more now than ever.

    Cheryl says:

30 years ago we had a farm and I made butter, for our home made bread, I made the jelly that we had with fresh eggs for breakfast, we butchered all of the meat we ate, grew all of the produce, and milked our cows. There were only a few things I had to pick up at the store. I always wanted to learn how to make cheese, one less thing I would have had to buy.

    Wendy Turney says:

Hi there. I mainly cook from scratch. Its healthier, as you know what is going into the food you prepare. It gives you an open field, in that you can decide what you want to make as compared to what is available commercially. It is cheaper than buying all fast foods, and by making your own food you can control allergins (ie the nuts, or milk, eggs, etc) that may be in a food. You can “fine tune” food to your likes, ie more cheese, spice, onions, etc, or less, and add your own amount of spice to make the recipe “perfect”. I have made butter from cream before, but not cheese, so this would be fantastic! Thank you for this oppertunity!

Now i am committed to cooking from scratch for our health!

This would be fantastic !! As a young lad I would always followed and watch my grandmother in the kitchen as she would make and teach me how to cook from scratch. She would make cakes, biscuits, pies, and milk/butter-milk and cheese all from an old “milk churn”. WOW! What fun and beautiful memories this brings back. The beauty of cooking from scratch is that you can eliminate most or all of the additives and preservatives which makes for a more healthy and tasteful entree or meal. I try and cook from scratch as much as possible as my time will allow and it gets my children involved to try and learn some of the pass down recipes from my grandmother. Would love to try and make homemade butter and cheese for my family !!!

I am a cheese junkie and also diabetic so naturely low carb cheese is something I can eat. Used to make butter with my grandma when I was little…love to try it again… besides I prefer home made with no chemicals

Since I have gotten back into making all of my dishes with homemade ingredients, I would really like to make butter from scratch. We eat so much of it (I know it’s not good for you) but the margarine and junk out there today is nasty, this would be a great kick to make.
