Let me tell you about the time I had a drink with George Clooney! Well, kind of…
This Sunday I had the honor and privilege of covering the Academy Awards from backstage in the press room at the Dolby Theatre. What a night! My favorite part was seeing the winners, walking in with their Oscar in hand, simply glowing. We are able to ask them a few questions before they are whisked back to their seats or off to an after party.
The show concluded with Best Picture to “Argo.” This meant, in mere moments, Ben Affleck and George Clooney would soon be within arms reach of my seat in the front row of the press room.

All three producers were beaming with delight from their big win. After a few brief questions they were whisked away to the Governors Ball or the Vanity Fair party. Some may have popped champagne, but I am guessing George celebrated with something a little stronger…
He recently released his own line of tequlia called “Casamigos.” It is a small batch ultra-premium tequila that is tasted and approved by not only a master distiller, but George himself. The batches are then numbered and signed. See, now anyone can get George Clooney’s autograph!
When I came back from the awards, I decided to come up with a recipe using George’s tequila. Right now pomelos (imagine a large, fleshy grapefruit) are in season, so I figured a Pomelo Margarita was in order.
6 ounces pomello juice
2 ounces lime juice
3 ounces Casamigos Tequila
2 ounces Cointreau
1/2 ounce simple syrup
margarita salt, if desired
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Serve on the rocks in a salt-rimmed glass, if desired.
Mr. Clooney was a bit busy for the rest of the evening, so he somehow didn’t make it to my margarita after-party. That’s ok… Next time George!
