Party Nuts and Edible Gifts!

Around this time every year I start looking for great “edible gift” recipes.  A unique and special homemade treat that I can make and giveaway for holiday gifts.  It needs to be something that is not only fun and festive, but also non-perishable and packs well for travel.

Tell me, what homemade goodies do you make during the holidays to give as gifts?

This easy and delicious 5-ingredient recipe fits the bill!   It is the perfect combination of sweet, spicy and savory with a blend of sugar, cayenne pepper and ground coriander. Also, by using a small amount of “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” Spread, excess holiday fat and calories are kept on track.

This recipe would also be great to set out in decorative bowls and serve at a holiday party.  Guests can grab a handful while they mix and mingle throughout the evening.  For more holiday tips be sure to visit our “Host the Holidays” group!

SWEET, SPICY, AND SAVORY PARTY NUTS  (click here to view and print recipe)

4 cups assorted salted mixed nuts (20 oz can)

2 tablespoons “I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter!” Spread, melted

3 tablespoons sugar

1 to 2 teaspoons ground red pepper, to taste

2 teaspoons dried coriander

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.  In a large bowl, combine mixed nuts and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! spread; set aside.  In a small bowl, blend remaining ingredients; stir into nut mixture.  In an ungreased roasting pan, evenly spread mixture.  Bake, stirring occasionally, 40 minutes or until nuts are golden.  Makes 4 cups.

I make all of my holiday gifts and have for as long as I can remember and nuts like these are often included. This year I’m not going nuts though! I made cranberry and coffee liqueurs and today I’m smoking my home cured bacon in 1/5 lb portions which I’ll vacuum pack and freeze. As a matter of fact…I’m going to get that smoker going now!

just be careful about people who have severe nut allergies. Some inhale the particles and become anaphylactic without actually ingesting the nuts
